The UCSD General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) grant is usually awarded funding from the NCRR to support 3 to 4 clinical research pilot studies per year. To be eligible to receive a CReFF award, an investigator must be a junior faculty–rank, equal to or less than assistant professor, including post-doctoral fellows, or a senior faculty only if they have a change in research career path. CReFF awards can be up to $20,000 for one-year renewable projects. To apply, please complete the
CReFF application and provide the following information in your submission packet:
- A copy of current HRRP application and consent form
- GCRC application package
- Funding requested. Include a budget and budget justifications including time frame to be covered by the CReFF funds
- Current and pending other support
- Curriculum vitae
The research plan must contain the items requred by the UCSD HRPP application plus the following components:
- Hypothesis
- Specific aims
- Preliminary studies, if any. This may include related studies or techniques preformed by your
laboratory that qualifies you to perform by your laboratory that qualifies you
to perform the proposed investigation.
- Research design and plan
- Brief overview of the entire study
- Subjects - to include sample size, recruitment plan, inclusing and exclusion critera
- Statistical analysis plan
The GCRC Advisory Committee will evaluate proposals on the following key components: scientific merit, feasibility of completing the study in the proposed time with the CReFF funds, and completeness of the scientific plan. Proposals must be self-contained, true pilot studies. Submission of a large R01 type of proposal is discouraged.
