Institutional K12 Training Support
As part of UCSD’s commitment to fostering excellence in clinical and translational research, we are pleased to announce the first annual competition for institutionally supported research career training grants. As part of our Clinical and Translational Research Institute (CTRI), the K12 grant mechanism is an institutional equivalent of a K23 or K08 award for junior faculty with early didactic opportunities through the CREST program and a mentored research experience. Up to two individuals will receive support in this first competitive cycle. Successful applicants will receive up to 3 years of support from the Dean’s office and from their home departments.
Eligible candidates include UCSD instructors or assistant professors in any academic series as well as fellows or post docs who are completing their training. Candidates must have departmental approval before submitting their applications.
Awardees must commit to 75% research effort, and the awardees’ home departments must commit to honoring this 75% effort. In return, the deans’ office and the home department will grant $50,000 apiece towards salary and benefits, and extensive formal and informal mentoring will be provided to awardees.
The application form is available in Microsoft WORD format by clicking on the following hyperlink K12 Application. All applications must be received by January 9, 2009. After competitive review, all applicants will be notified by March 2. The program will commence July 1, 2009.
Applications should be submitted as one document in WORD or PDF format by January 9, 2009 to jdimsdale@ucsd.edu . Receipt will be acknowledged within 24 hours. If no receipt is received, contact Dr. Dimsdale at 619 543-5592.
